Wow. It’s another year. How time flies. I’m sure you’re happy to be in another year.
Year In, year out, people make new year resolutions but research has proven that most new year resolutions don’t last. As a matter of fact, an article published by Business Insider shows that 80% of people have failing new year resolutions by February.
Personally, my new year resolutions don’t even last till the end of January. Sound weird right? Maybe.
However, to make progress you must pay attention to what you’re about to read. A wise man once describe insanity as doing the same thing over and again and expecting different results. This means that you must do certain things differently if you want to be better in 2019.
Now, one of the things you must do differently is Self – Evaluation. Self evaluation is an important step to self actualization.
Most people are stagnant because they don’t evaluate themselves often. As a matter of fact, the more you evaluate yourself, the more self aware you become and the more you become self aware, the more you make progress in life and business.
You must be able to answer 4 major questions right now. This questions are very important to help you start and end this year right.
Answering this questions and taking action will help you make dramatic changes that will being massive results for you in 2019.
I will advice that you get a Book and Pen to do this exercise. If possible, avoid a place of distraction so that you will be able to carry out this exercise well. So here are the questions to ask yourself :
1. What Should I Stop Doing? : There are certain things you’ve done in the past that should be stopped. The only good those things brought to you is retrogression and not acceleration. Certain things can ruin ones life,business and career if they aren’t stopped.There are some habits, values, beliefs, routines that is not adding value to your life in real sense but you do.
You have to know that to get certain things, you have to let go of some things. Life is like a market square where buying and selling takes place. To buy from the market, you must be ready to give out money in return of what you you want. For example, if you are willing to save more, you have to stop spending excessively.
“What should I stop doing?” should be a burning question as you read this article. What you should stop doing might be to stop visiting certain places and friends. A man who beats his wife often but want a happy home knows that he has to stop beating his wife to have na happy home. A man who wants promotion at work knows that he has to stop coming late to work. You know yourself than anyone else.
Therefore, evaluate your life and figure things you should stop doing to make progress. Pick up your Pen right now and start listing them out.
2. What should I start doing? : This is another very important question. You’re a product of of what you do and what you don’t do. Stopping certain things is not enough, you have to start doing certain things too.
If there is an habit you should start this year among others if you’ve not been doing so is Reading. Reading liberate the mind. Ask yourself and discover those things you should start doing that you think will make this year better than previous years. Start reading, giving, start investing in personal development.
Personally, I have figured out that I need DISCIPLINE in certain areas of my life. So look inward and figure out what is important for you to start doing. Last year, I discovered I need to start volunteering. I volunteered throughout the year and the result was massive.It might be to start a new business, turn a new leave etc.
3. What should I do more of? :There are some things you’ve done in the past that yield positive results.There are certain principles that you’ve applied in the past that you should not despise but continue.
They are things that yield positive results in the previous year but doing more of them will yield more positive results.You have to do more of some habits you’ve started that yield positive results.
Personally one of what I planned to do more is Public speaking. Spending more time with family, showing your kids some love, studying more as a student’s, attending more training’s as a professional etc.
4. What should I do less of? : Lastly, there are some things you don’t necessarily need to stop, you only need to reduce it. They are things that doing them excessively results to negative consequence. Not that this things are bad but doing it excessively make them bad. E.g Spending more time on social media and TV.
Several people are addicted to their phones and other devices. This has resulted to lack of productivity of many people.
As a parent, it might be to reduce the way you torture your children and shout at them. What about stressing yourself often? Don’t you think you need to do less of it and rest when appropriate knowing fully well that health is wealth. What should you do
Now, it is not enough to answer all this question without doing them. Your miracles lies in the doing not only in the writing.
Answering those questions and writing them down is the first step to a better and more productive year. Therefore, be willing to put into action what you’ve discovered about yourself.
